This week, our "resident" police officer Troy Clark and the Pleasant Hill Police Officer's Association provided  Food Service with a check to pay off all the negative balances in the cafeteria.

Forty-four students and two adults  benefited from this very generous gesture. Here is a big shout out, THANK YOU!

LCAP Meeting for College Park Feeder Pattern

Dear College Park Feeder Pattern School Community;

On Thursday, April 3, Superintendent Meyer and members of MDUSD staff visited College Park to gather input from our community regarding our feeder pattern needs and how the district can financially support them. Attendance was strong and discussions were productive.  A written and video synopsis has been posted on the College Park website at http://cphs.mdusd.org/.

If you were unable to attend the meeting, but would like to offer your input, please contact the district at lcap@mdusd.org.

A's Step up to the Plate for Education

There has been a large increase in demand for many of the Oakland A's "Step Up to the Plate for Education" fundraising games, especially the Saturday April 5 Fleece Blanket giveaway game and the April 19 Josh Donaldson Bobblehead giveaway game. Tickets are still available, but we recommend getting your orders in as soon as possible if you would like to attend a specific game. To purchase discounted tickets, click the link below, and a portion of each ticket sold will be donated directly back to the school.

1. Go the PHMS personalized link at:  www.oaklandathletics.com/pleasanthillmiddle

2. Click on one of the SIX games offered, buy your tickets, pay and enjoy!

Points to remember:

  • Group seating is not guaranteed-families should purchase tickets together.  In other words, one family member should order all the tickets for the game.
  • If you have questions, please contact our A's Representative:  Mike Kalchik:  mkalchik@athletics.com or call 510-563-2281.
  • Tickets are limited and based on availability.  Deadline to purchase tickets is Wednesday April 30, 2014.
  • Since the program is now in a digital format, tickets will be available with "print at home" capabilities OR at the stadium through a "ticket kiosk".
  • For games in April, tickets can be purchased 24 hours prior to game, dependent on availability.

GO A'S!!!  Earn Funds for PHMS.

Thanks,  Jan Ouimet

The PTSA Needs You - Only Two Open Positions Left

The PHMS PTSA Board has a few open positions for the 2014-15 school year. This is a great opportunity to get involved, meet teachers, administrators and other parents in our school community. We are specifically looking for an Historian and Parliamentarian. If you are interested in any of these positions or would just like to chat and get a sense of the responsibilities and time commitments, please contact Cindy Turner at pcturner@sbcglobal.net.

Teens & Substance Abuse - Discussion 3: "The New Normal"

THIS IS OUR THIRD PARENT EDUCATION EVENING

Thursday, April 10 at 7 pm in the College Park HS Library, 201 Viking Drive, Pleasant Hill.

To what extent has recreational drug use become normalized among the student population? The changing attitudes of drug use have gone from a small minority of the population that was a subculture, to gaining a solid position within popular youth culture where attitudes of use are associated with "normal."

Please join Jason Lechner, MFT, and College Park counselor, with a specialty in substance abuse and addiction, to expand on this subject and answer questions on this shift in attitude and how this impacts our youth today. We look forward to continuing our partnership with you at College Park High, and the greater community, so we can provide information and support to our students and families. We encourage you to bring your student(s) and/or friends to the evening as this is open to the community at large. For questions, please contact Deborah Frank, Student Services Coordinator, at:  frankd@mdusd.org or682-7670 x3203. To view the flier, click here.

Attention 6th Graders

Have you had your Tdap booster yet?  If not, now is the time to get it.  It is required for 7th grade.  Don't wait until the last moment.  Do it NOW.  Bring your proof to the office.

Thanks,

Janice Fong, RN, NCSN
